Agumbe

  • Agumbe is a village located near Thirthahalli in Shimoga district of Karnataka. Registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site the village is famous for its rich biodiversity, waterfalls and red-hazy sun-set.
  • Agumbe, popularly known as the 'Cherrapunji of South', is a tiny village nestled in the thick rainforests of Western Ghats in Karnataka. The village is also known as the ’Cobra Capital' of India because of the number of Cobras that are found here.
  • Agumbe is near the Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary and the Kudremukh National Park. Agumbe ghat road is know for it's number of hair pin curves.
  • The reserve forests around Kundapur, Shankaranarayana, Hosanagara, Sringeri and Thirthahalli are collectively referred to as the Agumbe Rainforest.
