Ibisbill

  • Ibisbill is a water bird belonging to the family Recurvirostridae with long legs, relatively small head and a long and slender bill.
  • It uses its long, red and downward-curving bill to search for food under stones along the banks of streams and ponds.
  • It is gray in colour with a black band on the breast and a mask on the face. It builds its nest at an altitude of 3000 meters or more in the Himalayan region of India.
  • It has been included in the 'Least Concern' category in the IUCN Red List. At present, its habitat is being fragmented due to sand mining and other anthropogenic activities in the Himalayan region.
