Munroe Thuruthu Island

  • Munroe Thuruthu is an inland island group located at the confluence of Ashtamudi Lake and Kallada River in Kollam district of Kerala.
  • It is a group of eight small islands. It is also known as the "Drowning Island of Kerala".
  • Spread over 13.4 square km. this island has been named in honour of Colonel John Munro.
  • According to recent study about 39% of Munro Thuruthu land area has shrunk due to anthropogenic reasons.
