Patient Safety Rights Charter

  • WHO launched it at the Global Ministerial Summit on 'Patient Safety'.
    • This conference has been organized by the Government of Chile in Santiago.
  • It is the first charter to outline patients' rights in terms of protection.
  • The Charter includes 10 “Patient Protection Rights”-
    • Timely, effective and proper care
    • Safe health care procedures and practices
    • Care from qualified and competent health workers
    • Safe medical products and their safe uses
    • Availability of safe health facilities
    • Dignity, respect, privacy and confidentiality
    • Information, education and supported decision making
    • Medical record receipt
    • To be heard and get fair solution
    • Involvement of the patient and his family in health care.
