POEM-3

  • ISRO's indigenous POEM-3 (PSLV Orbital Experimental Module-3) completed zero space debris mission.
  • This feat was achieved on March 21 when it re-entered the Earth's atmosphere.
    • XPoSat was launched in January 2024 with the help of PSLV C-58 rocket.
    • It placed all the satellites in their desired orbits.
  • Subsequently the terminal stage of PSLV was converted into triaxial stable platform POEM-3.
  • PSLV is a four stage rocket.
    • After its first three stages are used, they fall into the sea.
    • The final stage becomes space junk after the satellite is launched into orbit.
