Samudraayan Mission

  • Project Samudrayaan is India's first manned ocean mission.
  • National Institute of Ocean Technology and Ministry of Earth Sciences have jointly built the submarine MATSYA 6000.
  • The submarine will be launched off the Chennai coast in 2024 for trials.
  • Three people will be seated and lowered to a depth of 6000 meters.
  • Objective- Study of resources and evaluation of biodiversity.
  • This mission is likely to be completed by 2026.
