Tal Chhapar Sanctuary

  • Tal Chhapar Sanctuary located in Churu district of Rajasthan is known as the abode of blackbuck and various types of birds in Rajasthan. This sanctuary is a unique ecosystem flanked by the Great India Desert of Thar.
  • Harriers, eastern imperial eagles, short toed eagles, sparrowhawks, black ibis and demoiselle cranes along with migratory birds like skylarks, crested larks, ring doves and brown doves are sighted throughout the year in the sanctuary. Apart from this, desert fox and desert cat can also be seen here.
  • Recently a protective cover has been obtained to reduce the size of this eco-sensitive area of the sanctuary. The World Wildlife Fund for Nature has also started a project for the conservation of raptors in the sanctuary spread over 7.19 sq km.
