Energy Map of India

  • NITI Aayog, in collaboration with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has developed a Geographic Information System (GIS) Energy Map of India. NITI Aayog has developed this map with the support of various energy ministries such as Ministry of Coal, Ministry of Power, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas etc.
  • This map visualizes and provides a holistic picture of spatial and non-spatial data of renewable and non renewable power plants, oil and gas downstream areas, renewable energy potential, fossil fuels and other energy assets in India. It also presents district-wise data on renewable energy power plants and renewable energy resource potential etc through 27 thematic layers.
  • This map is extremely useful for geospatial planning of resources, such as infrastructure projects for upcoming solar parks, coal blocks, crude oil and natural gas pipelines, and disaster management and emergency response to energy disruptions.
  • GIS based mapping is also helpful in environment protection measures and inter-state coordination on energy and road transport infrastructure planning including various corridors of highways.
