Zhurong Rover

  • China's Zurong rover has found evidence of two massive floods on the surface of Mars. Since the rover was launched on the surface of Mars in May 2021, it has been exploring Utopia Planitia (basin topography) in its northern hemisphere.
  • The rover is powered by reusable solar panels equipped with instruments such as ground-penetrating radar, magnetic field detectors. It is using its six scientific instruments to study local geology, chemical composition of rocks and local weather conditions.
  • It is named after the Chinese mythological God Agni. Its weight is about 240 kg. which is heavier than NASA's Spirit and Opportunity rovers while one-fourth the weight of Perseverance and Curiosity.
