Kaas Plateau

  • The Kaas Plateau is made of igneous rocks in the Satara district of Maharashtra. It is included in the biosphere reserve of the Western Ghats.
  • This plateau is included in the list of Natural World Heritage Sites of UNESCO. Here the natural cycle of extreme weather conditions is normal.
  • Relatively thin layer of soil is found here unlike other plateaus or tablelands of this region. The government has set a maximum number of tourists per day to preserve the bio-diversity here.
  • Scientists have described the climatic and environmental changes that took place on this plateau during 8664 BC.
