Nagri Dubraj

  • Nagri Dubraj is a variety of rice grown in Nagri of Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh. It is also called 'Basmati of Chhattisgarh' because of its aroma.
  • It is an indigenous variety of rice. Small grains, short plant height, 140 days maturity period etc. are some of its main characteristics. It gives a maximum yield of six quintals from one acre.
  • Nagri Dubraj is also mentioned in Valmiki Ramayana where its origin is believed to be from Shringi Rishi Ashram area of Sihawa.
  • Nagari Dubraj is the second variety of rice from Chhattisgarh to get Geographical Indication after Jeeraful rice (2019).
