Namda Art

  • Namda is a traditional Kashmiri carpet made from sheep's wool. Colorful embroidery is done on it by hand.
  • Namda rugs are used for warmth, floor covering and home decoration.
  • It is not woven, but the wool is felted, that is, the wool is placed layer by layer. Its theme is based on floral patterns and flowers, leaves, buds, fruits etc. are an essential part of its design.
  • Namda making is practiced in Asian countries, especially Iran, Afghanistan and India. It was started by the Sufi saint Shah-e-Hamdan in the 16th century.
  • The government approved the export of the first batch of Namda art products to the United Kingdom.
