The annual Kodiyal Theru Ratha Festival has begun at the Venkataraman Temple in Mangalore. This festival is celebrated every year from the third day of Shukla Paksha of Magha month of Hindu calendar.
In this festival a wooden carved chariot is displayed in front of the Venkataraman temple.
The festival begins with the unfurling of the Garuda Dhwaj amidst the clanging of bells and the reverberation of drumbeats. This Garundhwaj is lowered back down on the day of Holi with a ceremonial celebration, which is the culmination of the festival.
The festival of Holi is celebrated with the end of this festival.
