Obstructive Sleep Apnea

  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a clinical disorder commonly associated with breathing during sleep. In this, the respiratory process gets interrupted for a few seconds during sleep.
  • The pause of the respiratory process for 10 seconds or more is called 'obstructive sleep apnea'. This process can happen hundreds of times in a single night.
  • As a result, excessive daytime sleepiness, difficulty concentrating or headaches, depression, etc. may occur. Its most common feature is snoring.
  • Although the disorder is not fatal, it can result in serious problems such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
  • It is diagnosed through polysomnography, a method of recording body movements during sleep.
