On August 21, 2025, India's Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow. The visit came at a time when the US has imposed additional sanctions on India regarding energy trade. The purpose of this meeting was not only to strengthen trade relations but also to discuss global energy security, multilateral cooperation and protection of Indian interests.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai has raised the question whether the Supreme Court, despite being the ‘Guardian of the Constitution’, should sit idly by while governors continue to disrupt the democratic system by stalling bills passed by state assemblies for years. The debate is particularly linked to the Tamil Nadu case where the governor has not taken any decision on several important bills for four years.

On 21 August 2025, the Parliament passed the Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill, 2025. The law is a significant step to protect citizens from the risks of online money games, while also promoting other types of online games and ensuring their proper regulation.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has recommended reforms in toll collection, including eliminating indefinite toll collection and increasing transparency. According to the data, toll collection is expected to reach Rs 55,000 crore in the year 2023-24, which is much higher than Rs 1,046 crore in the year 2005-06.

The second National Space Day celebrated on 23 August in India is especially in the news in 2025 as it marks the second anniversary of the historic success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission. The day was declared as National Space Day by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to commemorate the successful landing of ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 lander on the surface of the Moon in 2023.

Recently, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a partnership with private satellite-based internet service provider Starlink. This move is in the news because it is a new experiment to make Aadhaar-based customer verification seamless and fast.
