Why in News?
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi recently inaugurated the advanced da Vinci Surgical Robot at its Skills, e-Learning and Telemedicine (SET) Centre. This installation is being considered a landmark achievement in the field of robotic surgery training in India.

Key Features
- This installation of the da Vinci system is for the first time in a government medical college in India for training.
- This system has been provided by Intuitive Surgical Company under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
- Two robotic systems available
- After this installation, AIIMS, Delhi has become the only institute in India to have two dedicated robotic systems for training.
- The centre already had the Hugo Robotic Trainer manufactured by Medtronic.
Training and Facility
- Practical Robotic Surgery Training
- Here students, resident doctors, nurses and teachers will be given comprehensive and practical training.
- Safe Environment
- The SET facility provides access to simulators, trainers and manikins, allowing trainees to practice in a safe and monitored environment.

- Dr M Srinivas, Director, AIIMS Delhi said that this new centre will further strengthen the Institute's leading role in surgical innovation.
- This initiative will make robotic surgery training possible in India, which was till now available only abroad.
