Recently, the four-day First World Humanoid Robot Games was held in Beijing, China.

• More than 500 Humanoid robots from 16 countries, including Japan, participated in this competition and demonstrated their technical skills and performance.

Details of competitions and activities

• In this four-day event, robots participated in a total of 26 different competitions related to sports, tasks and real-life situations.
• These mainly included challenging events like track and field, football, dancing and kickboxing.
• Apart from this, the robots were also prepared to perform in real-world scenarios, so that their autonomy, agility and balance ability could be tested.

Notable performances and achievements

• Many robots performed impressively in the competitions. For example, in a 100-meter race, one robot completed the race in just 21.5 seconds, which was considered an extremely fast and efficient performance.
• In the kickboxing competition, some robots were injured, but they kept their balance and continued to compete, demonstrating their technical abilities.
• In other track events, robots impressed spectators by demonstrating their agility, speed, and coordination.

Technical challenges and robotic weaknesses

• Most performances were excellent, but not all events went smoothly.
• In a soccer competition, some fully autonomous robots suddenly fell, leading to unexpected results in the game.
• Similarly, during the 400-meter relay, some robots collided with each other. An observer also noted that when one robot fell, the other robots standing behind it also fell with it, whereas human participants usually catch themselves individually in such a situation.
• This event demonstrates the limits of collective coordination and autonomy in robotics.
