Khelo India Winter Games 2025

Why in the news?

Union Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated the Khelo India Winter Games 2025.

Key points:

• The Khelo India season kicked off with the Khelo India Winter Games 2025 in Ladakh.
• Part one:
  • In Ladakh
  • Two events - ice hockey and ice skating
  • Date of event: 23-27 January
• Part two:
  • In Jammu and Kashmir
  • Events- snow sports like skiing
  • Date of event: 22-25 February
• The first part of the event will see participation of 19 teams, including states, union territories and institutional organisations.
• This will be the second time Ladakh will host the Winter Games.
• This will be its fifth edition.

Khelo India Winter Games:

• It is organized with the aim of promoting players of snowy areas and winter sports.
• These games started in the year 2020.
• The games include-
  • Ice Hockey
  • Ice Skating
  • Skiing
  • Snowboarding

Khelo India Program:

• This initiative of the Government of India started in 2017.
• This program has been brought to promote sports culture at the grassroots level.
• Its objective is to connect more and more youth with sports.
• The competitions under this are mainly divided into different sports categories and levels.
