About the National Household Travel Survey
The National Household Travel Survey was conducted from July 2025 to June 2026.

- 14,274 villages

- Around 4.92 lakh households
- More than 20.34 lakh persons

Two-Wheelers Dominate Workplace Commutes
- Two-wheelers emerged as the most common mode of transport for commuting to fixed workplaces.
- Around 42.6% of workers use two-wheelers to travel to their workplaces.
Monthly Commuting Expenditure
- The average monthly expenditure on commuting to a fixed workplace is ₹785 per worker.
- Urban workers spend significantly more on commuting, with an average monthly expenditure of ₹1,044, compared with ₹612 for rural workers.
Overnight Travel
- Public transport plays a major role in overnight travel.
- Buses and railways together account for 73.5% of overnight travel, followed by:
- Cars – 15.1%
- Two-wheelers – 8.8%
