Why in News?

• Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh flagged off 'Sanjay - Battlefield Surveillance System (BSS)' and dedicated it to the nation.
  • This automated system has the potential to revolutionise battlefield operations of the Indian Army.

Sanjay- Battlefield Surveillance System (BSS):

• Sensor and Data Integration:
  • Integrates information received from all ground and air battlefield sensors
  • Verification of data authenticity, prevention of duplication and dissemination of information over secure networks
• Communication and Surveillance:
  • Creation of battlefield surveillance scenario through Army Data Network and Satellite Communication Network
  • This system will help in increasing transparency and transforming future battlefields
• Advanced Capabilities:
  • Equipped with state-of-the-art sensors and analytics
  • Surveillance of long land borders and prevention of infiltration
  • Key role in Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR)

Development and Induction of Sanjay System

• Development:
  • It was jointly developed indigenously by Indian Army and BEL.
  • It promotes technology induction under 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'
• Induction:
  • It will be inducted into all operational brigades, divisions and corps of the Indian Army in three phases between March and October 2025.
