Strict action on online gaming

Why in news?

• The government has blocked 1,410 gaming sites under the IT intermediary rules following a report by the Indian Cyber ​​Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
  • This step has been taken under the IT intermediary rules.
  • The I4C provides a framework for law enforcement agencies to deal with issues related to online gaming.

Reason and Objective:

• These gaming sites were found to be involved in illegal activities.
• Many sites were promoting gambling, betting and cyber fraud.
• This decision has been taken to prevent online fraud and cyber crimes.

Indian Cyber ​​Crime Coordination Centre (I4C):

• It is a major initiative under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India.
• It aims to create a coordinated framework to prevent and combat cyber crimes in the country.
• It was established to strengthen cyber security and prevent digital fraud.
• It was formally launched on 10 January 2020.
