  • These musical instruments, made in Miraj, Maharashtra, have received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
  • The Intellectual property office of the Government of India gave this indicator to the following institutions:
    • Miraj Musical Instruments Cluster for Sitar
    • To 'Soultune Musical Instrument Producer Firm' for Tanpura.
  • Wood for these instruments is purchased from the forests of Karnataka.
  • For these, pumpkin is purchased from Mangalvedha area of Solapur district of Maharashtra.
  • GI registration is valid for a period of 10 years.
    • It can be renewed again.
