Hesaraghatta Lake

  • Hesaraghatta Lake is a man-made freshwater lake located in the city of Bangalore. It is situated near the Nandi Hills in the catchment area of the Arkavati River.
  • It was built in the year 1894 by the then Diwan of Mysore State Sir K.K. Seshadri Iyer and the then Chief Engineer M.C. Hutchins under the ‘Chamarajendra Water Project.’
  • The aqueduct system built using bricks, lime and mortar ensures water supply to the city through gravitational pull.
  • After about 28 years, a massive increase in the water level of this lake has been recorded.
