The All India Speaker Conference 2025 was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the Delhi Assembly. This two-day event is dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of Veer Vitthalbhai Patel being elected as the first Indian Speaker.

• The conference was organized under the leadership of Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijayendra Gupta.
• Speakers and Deputy Speakers from State Legislatures and Legislative Councils across the country participated.

Special Initiatives:

• A commemorative postage stamp was released in memory of Vitthalbhai Patel.
• An exhibition showcasing Delhi Assembly’s journey of over 100 years was inaugurated, tracing the history from the Imperial Legislative Council and Central Legislative Assembly to India’s first Parliament.

About Veer Vitthalbhai Patel:

• Vitthalbhai Patel (1873–1933) was the elder brother of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and a prominent leader of India’s freedom struggle.
• He studied law in England and returned to India to practice law while actively engaging in politics.
• In 1925, he became the first Indian Speaker of the Central Legislative Assembly.
• He conducted the Assembly impartially and democratically, resisting pressure from British officials.
• He was associated with the Swaraj Party and worked internationally to garner support for India’s independence.
• He passed away on 22 October 1933 in Geneva, Switzerland, and dedicated his property to the freedom movement.
