According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the election for the next Vice President post will be held on September 9. This date has been announced after former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar submitted his resignation to the President of India under Article 67 (a) of the Constitution.

Electoral College for Vice President
- Under Article 324 of the Constitution, the Election Commission of India is responsible for conducting the election for the post of Vice President of India.
- The Election Commission has finalized the list of the electoral college for the Vice Presidential election of the year 2025.
- This list has been arranged alphabetically on the basis of the states and union territories of the respective MPs.
- The electoral college for the Vice Presidential election consists of elected and nominated members of the Rajya Sabha and elected members of the Lok Sabha.
- The value of votes of all Members of Parliament is equal (one).
- In compliance with Rule 40 of the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Rules, 1974, the Election Commission of India is responsible for preparing and maintaining an up-to-date list of the members of this electoral college, along with their latest addresses.
Election of Vice-President
- The Vice-President is elected by secret ballot through the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote.
- As per constitutional provisions, elections to fill a vacancy caused by the abolition of office must be held before the expiry of the term.
- In cases where the office falls vacant due to resignation, death or removal, the election should be held as early as possible.
- The person elected serves a full term of five years from the date on which he assumes office.
