History and background
World Sports Journalist Day was started in the year 1994.
This date was chosen because on this day, 2 July 1924, the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) was established in Paris, France.
The purpose of establishing AIPS was to bring sports journalists from all over the world on one platform, protect their rights and promote quality and ethics in this field of journalism.
Currently AIPS is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland and represents journalists from more than 160 countries.
Sports journalists in India are represented by the Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI), which is a member organization of AIPS.
