CE 20 Engine

  • This is the largest cryogenic engine built by ISRO.
  • This is India's first engine with gas generator cycle.
  • It has received safety certificate for Gaganyaan mission after several tests.
  • This engine was used for Chandrayaan-3 mission.
  • In cryogenic technology, liquid hydrogen is used as fuel and liquid oxygen as oxidant.
  • Normally hydrogen gas turns into liquid state at -253°C and oxygen gas turns into liquid state at -183°C.
