Delftia tsuruhatensis

  • Bacteria found in the intestine of Anopheles mosquito.
  • The TC1 strain found in it is capable of controlling Plasmodium parasites.
  • A small molecule called harmane produced by TC1 is capable of inhibiting parasite growth.
  • In high doses the harmane behaves like a neurotoxin but in mosquitoes the small amounts produced by the bacteria are safe.
