Hyderabad liberation day

  • Nizam Mir Osman Ali of Hyderabad did not want to merge his princely state with India.
  • On September 17, 1948, it was liberated from the Nizam's rule under Operation Polo.
    • Operation Polo is the 'code name' of a military operation conducted by the Indian Army to annex the princely state of Hyderabad into India.
