Modhera temple

  • Dedicated to the Sun God, this temple is situated on the bank of Pushpavati river in Modhera village of Mehsana district of Gujarat. It was built in 1026-27 AD by the King Bhimdev I of the Solanki dynasty.
  • It is Built in the Indo-Iranian style, It is built in two parts, the sanctum sanctorum and the sabhamandapa. The main feature of the sabhamandapa is that when look at the bottom, they appear as octagonal and when they look upwards they appear round.
  • It is also known as Khajuraho of Gujarat due to the carvings like Khajuraho on the stone of this temple.
