  • The High Seas Treaty was agreed upon by the members of the United Nations in the year 2023.
    • High seas are those water areas which are beyond national control.
    • Currently there is no international policy mechanism for the conservation of biodiversity in these areas.
  • Its objective is to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in the high seas.
