Skin Bank

  • North India's first Skin Bank has been established at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
  • At present there are 16 skin banks in the country where the skin of a person can be donated within six hours of death.
  • Unlike kidney and liver, skin can be stored for three to five years.
  • Skin infections, cancer and ulcers as well as patients with slow healing wounds can benefit from skin grafting.
