University of Tokyo Atacama Observatory

  • The construction of this observatory (TAO) located in Chile has been completed.
  • Its objective is to trace the origin of galaxies and planets.
  • This is the astronomical observatory located at the world's highest altitude (5,640 meters).
  • This observatory has been established on Cerro Chahnetor mountain.
  • It has two infrared wavelength observation instruments-
    •  SWIMS: To understand the evolution of galaxies
    • Mimizuku: To study the origin of planets.
