West Nile Fever

• Cases of West Nile fever have been reported in Kerala.
• It is caused by West Nile virus infection.
• This virus reaches mosquitoes from the dead bodies of birds.
• Spread to humans through the bites of infected mosquitoes of the Culex species.
• Its first case was reported in Uganda in the year 1937.
• Its symptoms are- fever, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, paralysis etc.
