World Crafts City: Srinagar

  • Srinagar was given the status of World Crafts City by the World Crafts Council.
    • Srinagar is also included in the UNESCO Creative City Network.
  • Srinagar is the fourth city in the country to receive this status.
    • The other three cities are Mallapuram, Jaipur and Mysore.
  • This will give a boost to the local handicraft industry of Srinagar.
    • More than 60 thousand people are associated with handicrafts here.
    • This includes weavers, wood carvers, embroiderers etc.
