- Srinagar was given the status of World Crafts City by the World Crafts Council.
- Srinagar is also included in the UNESCO Creative City Network.
- Srinagar is the fourth city in the country to receive this status.
- The other three cities are Mallapuram, Jaipur and Mysore.
- This will give a boost to the local handicraft industry of Srinagar.
- More than 60 thousand people are associated with handicrafts here.
- This includes weavers, wood carvers, embroiderers etc.
