- It is a mosquito-borne flavivirus.
- Mainly spread by the bite of Aedes aegypti mosquito.
- It also spreads through pregnancy, sexual contact, blood transfusion etc.
- It was first identified in monkeys in Uganda in the year 1947.
- In the year 1952, it was identified in humans in Uganda and Tanzania.
- Its symptoms are fever, rash, headache, red eyes, muscle pain etc.
- Recently Zika virus was confirmed in mosquitoes of Chikkaballapura, Karnataka.
