The Ministry of Ayush announced the 11th Ayurveda Day celebrations on 23 September 2026, with the main national programme in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The theme is “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow.”

Every year on 23 September, the world observes the International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL) to recognise the linguistic identity, cultural heritage and fundamental rights of deaf people. 

World Rose Day for Cancer Patients 2026 is observed on September 22 to express love, compassion and solidarity with people living with cancer.

World Alzheimer's Day is observed every year on 21 September to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

Hyderabad Liberation Day is observed on 17 September to commemorate the integration of the erstwhile princely State of Hyderabad with the Indian Union in 1948.

World Ozone Day, officially known as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, is observed every year on 16 September. 

India will observe National Engineers’ Day on 15 September 2026 to recognise the contribution of engineers to technological innovation, infrastructure development and nation-building. 

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is observed every year on 10 September to raise awareness about suicide prevention, reduce stigma around mental health and encourage timely support for people experiencing distress. 

International Literacy Day is being observed worldwide on 8 September 2026. This year's observance is particularly significant because it marks 60 years since UNESCO proclaimed International Literacy Day in 1966.

India celebrates Teachers’ Day every year on 5 September to honour teachers and recognise their contribution to education, society and nation-building. The day commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, one of India’s most distinguished philosophers, educationists and statesmen, who later became the first Vice-President and second President of India.
