"Haat on Wheels": A New Initiative to Bring Handlooms to Every Home

On the occasion of the 11th National Handloom Day, the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, launched a new mobile retail initiative named“Haat on Wheels” and inaugurated a special Handloom Expo.
Key Points:-
Union Minister of Textiles, Shri Giriraj Singh, launched this initiative at the Handloom Haat located on Janpath, Delhi.
The “Haat on Wheels” initiative aims to take the country’s traditional weaving directly to consumers’ doorsteps.
It showcases 116 region-specific weaving styles of India.
The initiative promotes direct market access, self-reliance, and Vocal for Local.
What is “Haat on Wheels”?
“Haat on Wheels” is a mobile handloom market designed in the form of a vehicle.
This vehicle will travel across markets, residential areas, art centers, and cultural sites in Delhi-NCR with the aim to—
Bridge the gap between weavers and consumers
Deliver authentic Indian handlooms to urban areas
Raise awareness about sustainable fashion, local products, and craftsmanship
Government’s Vision and Approach
“Handloom is not only a symbol of our cultural heritage but also the source of livelihood for millions of rural people.
The ‘Haat on Wheels’ initiative is another step towards building an Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
The government’s objective is to economically empower weavers, provide sustainable employment, and give local products global recognition.
Showcasing 116 Unique Weaving Styles
The expo displays 116 traditional weaving styles selected from across the country.
It includes live weaving demonstrations, offering visitors and students the opportunity to understand the art of handloom.
Organized at Handloom Haat, the expo will remain open to the public until 10 August.
Theme of the Year: “My Handloom, My Pride”
This year’s theme is— “My Handloom, My Pride; My Product, My Pride”
The theme not only reflects the pride of weavers but also inspires consumers to adopt local products.
A Blend of Tradition and Innovation
Through the “Haat on Wheels” initiative, the Ministry of Textiles aims to combine tradition with innovation.
