Why in the news?

• Recently, playback singer K. S. Chitra and musician Uttam Singh were selected for the Lata Mangeshkar Award.
• Uttam Singh has been selected for the Lata Mangeshkar Award for the year 2022 and K. S. Chitra for the year 2023.
• This award will be given to them by the Madhya Pradesh government on 28 September (Lata Mangeshkar's birth anniversary).

Lata Mangeshkar Award

• This award is given every year on Lata Mangeshkar's birth anniversary by the State Culture Department of Madhya Pradesh.
• It was started in the year 1984.
• The purpose of this award is to promote artistic excellence in the field of music.
• In this, Rs 2 lakh and a citation are given.
