On August 14, Prime Minister Modi recalled the suffering and pain suffered by countless people during that saddest chapter of India's history on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. In the year 2021, the Government of India decided to celebrate this day on 14 August.

About Partition Horrors Remembrance Day
- This day is celebrated every year on 14 August. The purpose of its organization is to remember the painful experiences of partition and honor their suffering.
- This day is dedicated to paying tribute to the victims of mass genocide, violence and migration during the partition of India in the year 1947.
History of Partition
- On August 14/15, 1947, India and Pakistan were partitioned, which proved to be a very painful and painful event.
- During the partition, about 10-15 million people became homeless due to their religious and ethnic identity.
- Partition-induced violence claimed millions of lives and millions fled from their homes as refugees. Partition deeply traumatized the country culturally and mentally.
- Partition of India was rooted in the British government's policy of 'divide and rule' and the demand for 'two-nation theory' by the Muslim League. On June 3, 1947, the then Viceroy Lord Mountbatten presented the plan for partition of India.
- Through the Indian Independence Act, 1947, British India was divided into two independent dominions, India and Pakistan.
- The result of this partition was unplanned and rapid migration. About 1.5 to 2 crore people were displaced and 10 to 20 lakh people were killed in communal violence.
