Uttar Pradesh government will give Rs 1 lakh to those going on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

Why in news?

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a special scheme to support the devotees of the state in the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

Key points:

  • This scheme has been announced by the Tourism Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Jaiveer Singh.
  • Under this scheme, any person who is a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh and travels to Kailash Mansarovar will be given financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh by the government.
  • This scheme is a gift for those pilgrims who want to travel to Kailash Mansarovar under religious faith.
  • The purpose of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to the devotees of Uttar Pradesh for the difficult and expensive journey to Kailash Mansarovar, so that more and more people can take advantage of this spiritual journey.

Who are the beneficiaries of the scheme?

  • Only those people who are permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh will get the benefit of this scheme.
  • The benefit will be given to those devotees who will successfully complete this journey through the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra authorized by the Central Government or through a registered private travel agency.
  • To be eligible for the benefit, the pilgrim will have to apply to the Uttar Pradesh government after completing the journey.

Amount of assistance to be received:

  • Under this scheme, financial assistance of ₹ 1,00,000 (one lakh rupees) will be given to each eligible devotee by the Uttar Pradesh government.
  • This amount will be transferred directly to the pilgrim's bank account, but only if they have completed the journey and all the documents are found to be correct.

What is the application process?

  • You have to apply for this scheme within 90 days of successfully completing the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
  • To apply, you have to visit the official website of the Government of Uttar Pradesh www.updharmarthkarya.in.
  • After going to the website, click on the option of "Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Subsidy".
  • After this, the application form has to be filled and the required documents have to be scanned and uploaded.

What are the required documents?

  • Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Certificate – Official certificate received after completing the journey.
  • Aadhar Card – As proof of identity.
  • PAN Card – Required for tax assessment.
  • Permanent Residence Certificate – To show that you are a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh.
  • Copy of visa and passport – if the journey is done abroad.
  • Bank account details – so that the assistance amount can be transferred directly to the account.

Key information related to Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025:

  • Start of the journey – This journey will be started from 30 June 2025.
  • Total pilgrims – A total of 750 pilgrims have been selected this time.
    • Out of these, 500 pilgrims will travel via Nathu La route.
    • 250 pilgrims will complete the journey through the Lipulekh Pass route.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a spiritual, religious and adventurous journey, which is considered extremely sacred for the followers of Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Bon religions.

Mount Kailash:

  • This mountain is located in the south-western part of Tibet (now occupied by China).
  • It is considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva.
  • Its height is about 6,638 meters (21,778 feet).

Mansarovar Lake:

  • It is a calm and sacred lake in the Himalayas.
  • Mansarovar Lake is located at an altitude of about 4,590 meters (15,060 feet) above sea level.
  • Its water is a symbol of purity and spirituality. It is believed that bathing in it washes away sins.
