Dinga-Dinga virus spreads in Uganda

  • Recently, Dinga Dinga virus has spread in the African country Uganda.
  • More than 300 people have been infected by it.
  • Most of them are women and girls.
  • Its maximum effect has been seen in Bundibugyo district of Uganda.

Dinga-Dinga Virus:

  • When the patient is affected by this virus, there is severe tremor in his body.
  • This tremor is so strong that it seems as if the patient is dancing.
  • If the infection is high, the patient can also get paralyzed.
  • This virus was first known in the year 2023.
  • Since then the government of Uganda is investigating it.

How did the disease get the name Dinga-Dinga?

  • This disease spread in Uganda has not been named scientifically yet.
  • According to the news agency Monitor, the people there call the virus 'Dinga-Dinga' in common language.
  • It means 'sharp tremor like dancing'.
