Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth has announced plans to increase the National Cadet Corps (NCC) to three lakh cadets.

About National Cadet Corps
- Introduction: As the youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces, it is a voluntary organisation focused on making school/college students disciplined and patriotic citizens.
- It is the largest uniformed youth organisation in the world.
- Tri-service organisation: Army, Navy and Air Force included
- Motto: Unity and Discipline
- Establishment: NCC was formally inaugurated on 15 July 1948 after the approval of the National Cadet Corps Act.
- Headquarters: New Delhi
- Objective
- To develop character, brotherhood, discipline, secular outlook, spirit of courage and selfless service in young citizens.
- To prepare a group of trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities.
- Training: Cadets are given basic military training including small arms and drill.
- NCC Special Entry Scheme: This scheme provides an opportunity to NCC cadets to be commissioned as Lieutenants in the Indian Army.
- Current strength: Around 17 lakh, which is planned to be increased to 20 lakh in future.
- NCC Day: India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru presided over the ceremony of establishment of the first NCC unit in Delhi on November 24, 1948. This day is traditionally celebrated as 'NCC Day'.
- It celebrated its 76th Foundation Day on November 24, 2024.
