Ambubachi fair is being organized in Maa Kamakhya Devi in ​​2025

Why in news?

• Ambubachi Mela was held from 22 June to 26 June at the famous Kamakhya Devi temple located in Guwahati, Assam.
• The temple of Maa Kamakhya Devi is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths.

Dates of Ambubachi Mela 2025:

• Start: 22 June 2025
• End: 26 June 2025
• Temple closure time: 22 June to 25 June 2025 (sanctum sanctorum closed)
• Temple opening time: Morning of 25 June 2025
• Fair closing and special puja: 26 June 2025

Key points:

• On 22 June, at the beginning of the fair, the doors of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple were closed for 3 days. 
  • This is believed to be the period of menstruation of the goddess.
  • During these three days, there is no puja or darshan in the temple. Devotees perform sadhna and japa by staying outside the temple.
• This fair is considered especially important for tantric sadhna. Thousands of tantriks and sadhus and saints from the country and abroad come to attend this fair.
• On the fourth day (on June 25) the doors of the temple were opened again and special prasad was distributed to the devotees after purification rituals.
  • It also includes the Rajaswala Vastra (a red cloth) of the goddess, which is considered very sacred.

Significance:

• This fair symbolizes the menstruation (rajaswala) of Goddess Kamakhya.
• It is believed that during this time the goddess menstruates on earth.
• It is a celebration of womanhood, fertility and the power of nature.
