India's first public sleep database: NIMHANS's new initiative in stroke research

Recently, researchers from the Indian National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, and the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad, have developed Asia's first open-access (public) sleep database of nocturnal sleep of ischemic stroke patients. This dataset, called iSLEEPS (Polysomnography Dataset for Sleep Analysis in Ischemic Stroke Patients), has been published in Nature Portfolio's Scientific Data journal.

What is the iSLEEPS database ?

  • iSLEEPS is a publicly available polysomnography (PSG)-based database that collects detailed biological and clinical information related to overnight sleep of patients with ischemic stroke.

Key Features

  • Asia's first public stroke-specific sleep database.
  • Includes overnight polysomnography (PSG) records from 100 patients.
  • Data collection period: September 2018 to December 2021.
  • Data collection was conducted at NIMHANS.
  • All records are annotated according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) 2017 Guidelines.
  • Available in open-access form for research and education.
